About Us

What is HoraCero?

HoraCero is a media outlet dedicated to covering Central America from a critical and
progressive perspective. Our mission is to interconnect the region by raising awareness
about the struggles facing neighboring countries. We are committed to sharing information through an ethical lens, grounded in solidarity with the ongoing struggles of a region plagued by authoritarianism, violence, and corruption.

We speak in a youthful voice, but we speak to everyone. That’s why we care about covering topics that are off the radar or not trending. We firmly believe that journalistic rigor and political commitment are compatible. Our approach will always stand with those who resist the forces of corporate power, corrupt governments, organized crime, and anti-rights groups.

Our Story

HoraCero was born in July 2018, during the protests against Daniel Ortega’s dictatorship. A group of young people began to question the lack of space for political debate from a critical perspective—something that was scarce in most traditional media.

Due to political persecution, much of the team was forced into exile. That migratory experience pushed us beyond Nicaraguan borders and led us to reflect on the importance of addressing Central America—not because we see it as a homogenous space, but because we believe there is much to expose and learn from the region’s dynamics of power, inequality, and authoritarianism.
